This instrument is used for a hardness/indentation test on a single or multilayer coating system. An indenter of specified size, shape and weight is applied to the coating under defined conditions. A rectangular metal block of 1000 ±5gms mass fitted with a spirit level, two pointed feet and a circular indenter manufactured from hardened tool steel.

The instrument consists of a base plate, panel holder with clamp and a series of mandrels. The stainless steel mandrels supplied with the instrument are as follows: 2,3,4,5,6,8,10,12,20,25 and 32 mm diameter. Dimensions- L: 190mm W: 115mm H:250mm (handle raised) weight is approximately 4kg. The instruments body consists of Steel and aluminium.

Also known as a drop weight tester. Surface coatings are subjected to mechanical damage by impact which can deform the coating and/or substrate. Controlled variable range of impact energy allows for coatings to be tested for elasticity, brittleness and adhesion to the substrate. The Impact Tester consists of a one metre tube fitted with a heavy base, a dropping weight (1.8kg) with a hemispherical ball indenter is fitted into the tube. The tube weight provides impact energies up to 1m/1.8kg force. Suitable for powder coating applications.
